Igor Kononenko Ukrainian businessman, politician and philanthropist.
Igor Kononenko was born on August 21, 1965, in Kyiv, Ukraine. After graduating from Secondary School No. 45 in 1982, he attended the National Transport University (then the Kyiv Automobile and Highway Institute). His studies were interrupted by compulsory military service from 1984 to 1986, after which he returned to graduate with honors in 1989.
His extensive professional background includes serving as Commercial Director at LTD ‘Transport’ (1990–1991) and JSC ‘Exchange House Ukraine’ (1991–1994). From 1994 to 2008, he held senior leadership roles at the Ukrainian Industrial and Investment Concern JSC, including Deputy General Director, First Deputy General Director and First Vice President. Also, he served as Chair of the VIK Investment Fund from 2008 to 2014.
In 2014, Igor Kononenko was elected to the Parliament of Ukraine (VIII convocation), where he served as a Member of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety. During his tenure, he was actively engaged in decentralization reform. This policy was based on the provisions of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and international best practices in public administration.
Igor Kononenko was a co-author of key energy and road reform legislation, including laws that restructured Ukraine’s road industry financing:
No. 1762-VIII: Improved the financing mechanism for the road sector.
No. 1763-VIII: Amended the Budget Code to optimize road industry funding.
No. 2304-VIII: Amended legislation regarding highway construction and operation.
These laws established the framework for the concession-based construction of national highways, ensuring transparency and protecting investor (concessionaire) rights.
In 2019 Igor Kononenko returned to business career where he stays active being the Owner and Sole Shareholder of JSC “VIK Investment Fund”.
His business interests include JSC “VIK Investment Fund” (Ukraine) and KIWI FAMILY HOLDINGS S.L. (Spain)
Throughout his life, Igor has been actively involved in public and charitable work.
